Canada’s banking system was ranked the world’s strongest for the sixth straight year by the World Economic Forum.

Canada’s banks received the No. 1 spot in the Geneva-based organization’s Global Competitiveness Report, which was released Wednesday. The report includes 148 countries.

“Having a strong and profitable banking system is the backbone of the Canadian economy,” Terry Campbell, president of the Canadian Bankers Association, said in a statement.
