Today marks the anniversary of Thomas Jefferson’s birthday in 1742. The third President of the United States, one of our founding fathers, and one of the authors of the Declaration of Independence, was born on April 13, 1742.
Jefferson was born in Shadwell, Virginia. He was one of ten children. At 29 he married Martha Skelton who he went on to have six children with. Only two survived past childhood.
Both the Louisiana Purchase and the abolition of the slave trade occurred during Jefferson’s presidency.
