About a dozen demonstrators protested New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio on Monday when he took up temporary residence on Staten Island — the only one of the city's five boroughs he lost in 2013, the New York Post reported.
"He's a Red Sox fan, and that's the least of it," protester Gary Phaneuf shouted — holding a sign that declared: "Dump de Blasio. He hates Staten Island," the Post reported.
De Blasio, who is looking toward his reelection bid, will be running the city this week from Staten Island in the first leg of a week-long visit to each borough and upper Manhattan, the Post reported.
GOP mayoral candidate Paul Massey blasted the visit, calling it "a taxpayer-funded campaign stunt."
"Mayor Bill de Blasio is on Staten Island this week trying to make up for lost time and effort," Massey said, per the Post. "His lack of attention to Staten Island over the course of his mayoralty can't be fixed by showing up for a few days for a 'Listening Tour.'"
