Tony Bennett has reportedly accepted an invitation to sing at Lady Gaga’s wedding to actor Taylor Kinney, a nod to the pair's close professional and personal relationship.
The 88-year-old singer told the New York Post’s Page Six that the couple asked and he said, “Of course, I will.”
Bennett, who collaborated with Lady Gaga on the best-selling “Cheek to Cheek” jazz album, also offered his heartfelt approval of her fiancé.
“She’s marrying a very wonderful man, very talented and very handsome. I think he’s going be highly successful in films,” Bennett told Page Six. “He’s a very nice person.”
Lady Gaga and the “Chicago Fire” star got engaged on Valentine’s Day, but they haven’t announced when their
wedding will take place, Hollywood Life reported. The two have been dating since 2011, with just one short breakup.
Wedding details are being kept under wraps, and even Bennett made it clear to Page Six that he wasn’t dishing on the event.
“All I know is, knowing Lady Gaga, it will be fabulous,” he said.
Gaga herself talked with Howard Stern in 2014 about how she knew Kinney was the man for her.
“He is the right guy. How do we know? It’s just a feeling," she said. But she also joked about the wedding, saying, “If I get married, I’ll be hanging out in a pickup truck at a David’s Bridal while my stylist is screaming at me.”
Gaga and Bennett have a strong friendship, something that she talks about frequently.
The pop singer told Parade last year that he was a lifesaver for her when she was struggling with her career. She “relates to” him, she added.
“You can’t trust anybody,” Gaga said. “You can trust your family. [But] you know, there were people I was sure were my friends [who were not]. It’s heartbreaking. Six months ago I didn’t even want to sing anymore. And then I spent a lot of time with Tony. He wanted nothing but my friendship and my voice.”
