Tomi Lahren's Halloween costume has been slammed by some on social media for violating the U.S. flag code, International Business Times noted.
The conservative political right-wing pundit, who recently joined Fox News as a correspondent, sent shock waves across social media after posting a photo on Instagram of herself wearing an American flag-themed costume.
The image of her wearing a flag cape teamed up with a Stars and Stripes fanny pack and tight blue leotard featuring President Donald Trump's catch phrase, "Make America Great Again," has gotten more than 127,000 likes and sparked fierce debate.
Lahren captioned the image: "Oh LA get ready to find your safe spaces! What am I? Well if you're a conservative, I'm American AF. If you're a lib, I'm 'offensive.' Let's go."
The post received widespread criticism, with many accusing Lahren of disrespecting the American flag.
Most critics referenced the U.S. code relating to "respect for the flag," which states no person should wear the American flag as clothing or use it as a costume.
Lahren fought back on Twitter, referencing legal code in a post that stated a person was not in breach of flag etiquette by wearing a piece of clothing that contained the same colours and patterns as the American flag.
The vocal commentator recently aired her distaste against the NFL protests on "Fox and Friends."
"I would like to ask these players 'What exactly are you kneeling for and why have you chosen the flag and the anthem to do it?'" she said, according to The Hill.
The Cut noted that, in a separate incident, Lahren missed the irony of her political viewpoints when she was campaigning against Obamacare but later admitted to still being on her parents' health insurance, a key provision of the legislation she opposed.
