Simone Biles is drawing praise for her response on "Dancing with the Stars" after being criticized by one of the judges following her Paso Doble performance Monday night.
After the performance, judge Carrie Ann Inaba said Biles showed signs of improvement, but that the Olympian still needs to make sure she’s not dancing "like a metronome" at certain points, according to HuffPost.
Julianne Hough piled on the criticism, questioning the realness of Biles’ smile when performing, Fox News noted.
"I don’t know if the smile is authentic," Hough said. "I want to see rawness come out."
While interviewing Biles shortly after, the show’s host, Tom Bergeron, said, "I was waiting for you to smile at some of the compliments, you didn’t," HuffPost noted.
Biles responded by saying, "Smiling doesn’t win you gold medals."
The snappy response sparked some reaction from Twitter users.
Bergeron later admitted that his question was a bit "clumsy," according to USA Today.
Biles assured the host, though, that they’re in no way on bad terms.
Biles will hit the dance floor again under the bright lights on Monday night to compete against David Ross and Rashad Jennings, who are also athletes, in the "Dancing with the Stars" semifinals. She’ll also go up against singer Normani Kordei.
