Robert De Niro Tax Lien Totals $6.4M for Tribeca Investment Property

Robert De Niro has paid a $6.4 million tax lien after media reports broke Thursday that the actor owed the federal bill on an investment property he owns in New York City.

The New York Post's Page Six reported that the notice was filed against De Niro with the Department of Finance on Feb. 3 for the "multimillion-dollar Tribeca investment property." While an IRS source confirmed that De Niro was mailed the notice three months ago, it showed it was sent to the Hudson address and not De Niro's Central Park West address, where he actually lives with his wife, Grace Hightower.

TheSmokingGun.com reported that the Tribeca property is a condominium complex developed by De Niro and his team of real estate partners. IRS officials reportedly filed a lien on the property three months ago that totaled $6,410,449.20, federal sources informed the website on Thursday.

De Niro spokesperson Stan Rosenfeld told TheSmokingGun.com that when the award-winning actor learned of the delinquency, "he had a check for the full amount hand delivered to the IRS this morning."

But FamousTaxLiens.com, one of the websites that first reported that De Niro was behind on his taxes, suggested that the actor may not be quite finished paying.

"Don't forget to add the penalties and interest, Robert," stated the website. "We'll dig up our favorite septuagenarian's Certificate of Release of Federal Tax Lien once it becomes public record in a few weeks."

De Niro's federal tax misadventure did attract some interest on social media, where some also drew connections to another New Yorker with alleged tax challenges, the Rev. Al Sharpton.
