Mitchelle Blair pleaded guilty on Monday to killing her son and daughter and putting their bodies into a freezer almost a year apart. She described the crimes in chilling detail and expressed no remorse.
During a hearing in front of Wayne County Circuit Judge Dana Hathaway, Blair called the two children – Stoni, 13, and Stephen, 9, – "demons" and described how she killed both children, according to the Detroit Free Press
A crew at Martin Luther King Apartments in Detroit found the children's bodies in a freezer located in Blair's living room on March 24 while evicting the mother of four.
Blair pleaded guilty to premeditated murder and felony murder at the hearing, reported The Detroit News.
Prosecutors originally charged her with two counts of felony murder, two counts of premeditated murder and one count of torture.
"You understand that if I accept a guilty plea, you'll be subject to a mandatory sentence of life in the Michigan Department of Corrections without the possibility of parole?" Wayne County Circuit Judge Dana Hathaway asked Blair.
"I understand," Blair replied.
The News said Stephen died Aug. 30, 2012, and Stoni died on on May 25, 2013. Both died from blunt injuries, burns and strangulation, according to an autopsy.
Blair told the court while she did not intentionally kill Stephen, she wanted to kill Stoni and felt no regret for either deaths.
"If I had a chance to do it again, I would," Blair told the court Monday. "I do not feel any remorse for what I did to Stoni because she had no remorse for what she did. … I don't feel no remorse for the death of those demons."
Blair said in court that she killed Stoni and Stephen because she believed they had sexually assaulted her youngest son, reported WJBK-TV
The Free Press said the state forensic center and an independent psychiatric examination found Blair competent to stand trial. Wyatt Harris, Blair's attorney, told the court that he talked with her three times about the entering the plea.
