The former Miss Venezuela and rising telenova star Monica Spear and her ex-husband were shot and killed in front of their 5-year-old daughter during a botched roadside robbery in the South American country Monday night.
Authorities said Spear, 29, and Henry Thomas Berry, 39, were gunned down when they resisted demands after being accosted when their car broke down
near Venezuela’s main port of Puerto Cabello, The Associated Press reported. Their daughter was being treated for a bullet wound to the leg.

The AP said the victims, though divorced, were on good terms and were awaiting a tow truck when they were attacked.
Social networking sites were awash with expressions of grief and consolation.
Spear, crowned Miss Venezuela in 2004, is a popular soap opera actress who recently starred in the U.S.-based Telemundo network’s “Pasion Prohibida.”
Roadside robberies in the South American country are not unusual, and Venezuela has one of the highest murder rates in the world.
In an interview with a Huffington Post Spanish-language site, Spear, who lived in Miami, said she left Venezuela because of the dangers posed in her native country.
The Huffington Post said Spear, her ex-husband, and their daughter were in Venezuela for the holidays and were heading toward the city of Valencia in a 2002 Toyota Corolla when the attack happened. Spear was expected to return to Miami this week.
No one has been arrested in the attack.
