Faye Grant, the estranged wife of “7th Heaven” star Stephen Collins, says she had no part in leaking to the media an audiotape in which Collins allegedly admits to inappropriate sexual contact with young girls.
"I woke up today to learn that an extremely private recording I handed over to the authorities in 2012 per their request in connection with a criminal investigation was recently disseminated to the press. I had no involvement whatsoever with the release of the tape to the media,"
Grant said in a statement to E! News.
TMZ said the audiotape was secretly recorded by Grant during a 2012 therapy session in which Collins is said to have confessed to Grant that he had sexual contact with children.
The New York Police Department is investigating the alleged "inappropriate sexual contact with minors," according to TMZ.
Collins has resigned from the National Board of the Screen Actors Guild, and his role in the coming “Ted 2” film has been cut, E! News reported.
Grant and Collins were married for 27 years when Collins filed for divorce in 2012.
In documents,
Grant said she learned of Collins' "secret life" in January 2012, People reported.
"In the presence of his therapist, Stephen admitted that he had engaged in a long term pattern of sexually abusing minor children, including sexually molesting three young girls over a decade ago," Grant said, according to People.
Twitter users, shocked by the allegations against Collins, weren't sure what to believe.
