Daniel Handler, author of the "Lemony Snicket" children's books, apologized for the second time on Friday for a "racist" joke he made earlier this week while hosting the National Book Awards.
When introducing "Brown Girl Dreaming" author Jacqueline Woodson at the Wednesday ceremony, Handler reportedly said, "I said that if she won, I would tell all of you something I learned about her this summer — which is that Jackie Woodson is allergic to watermelon."
On Thursday, he issued a
two-tweet apology, according to The New York Times.
But the Internet didn’t let Handler off that easy, prompting another Twitter apology Friday.
Many thought the idea of a donation to that particular cause was a good one, and gave Handler kudos for admitting his fault.
