MSNBC host Brian Williams was criticized after making a "plowed over" comment while covering the terrorist attack in Nice, France, on Thursday.

According to Mediaite, while covering the attack, during which the suspect used a large truck to run over and kill people celebrating Bastille Day, Williams appeared to pick an inopportune time to describe how the report extended into the timeslot for "Hardball."

"We have just plowed over the normal hour of airtime of Chris Matthews tonight because of the confluence of breaking news," Williams said.

Williams has been back on the air for less than a year since serving a six-month suspension over fabrications about his reporting experience during the Iraq War, noted The Wrap.

Suspect Mohamed Lahouaiej-Bouhlel was killed by police Thursday night after he drove the truck into a large crowd of people around 11 p.m. local time, killing at least 84, reported The Guardian. The publication stated that at least 18 more were seriously injured.

Williams' gaffe was widely criticized on social media.
