Sharing the songs of the season is a great Christmas tradition, although this was not always the case. Caroling actually started back when the holiday celebrated the winter solstice rather than the birth of Christ. Inebriated people would go door to door singing in the hopes of getting food and drink. If they did not, they would threaten to vandalize the home. Thankfully, this is a much more positive tradition today and one that many love to participate in.
