Vice President Mike Pence's PAC raised nearly $200,000 over the summer from at least three dozen corporate groups, Politico reported.
PACs of corporate giants like AT&T, Boeing and General Electric look at giving to Pence's Great America Committee as a way to make nice with the White House without the risk, Politico reported.
"To big donor PACs it's just paying for more access — to be in the room, to have friendly conversations outside the office, to build relationships amongst allies, to convey your message, and to gather information and intelligence," Republican campaign finance lawyer Dan Backer told Politico.
Though it continues to fuel the rumor mill about Pence's 2020 political ambitions, the vice president's PAC is a safe harbor for big donors, knowing Pence's team will distribute wisely to Republican congressional candidates, Politico reported.
Further, by avoiding the Republican National Committee, donors know their money won't go to paying legal bills for President Donald Trump and his family; the RNC has spent upwards of $400,000 on lawyers for the president and son Donald Trump Jr. due to the investigation into alleged collusion with Russia during the election.
"There's certainly a lot of people interested in connecting with Pence. He's familiar, a Washington face, a steady hand," one donor told Politico.
