Ohio Gov. John Kasich said Sunday on "Face the Nation"  that he is making progress in his quest to win the GOP presidential nomination and has no intention of dropping out.

"Well, there's three things you need to be president, in my opinion," Kasich said, quoting "a smart Democrat. One, you've got to have issues. Two, you have to have vision. And, three, you kind of have to be likable. You got to have at least two of those three."

Kasich is in the middle of the pack in recent polls, though he pointed out he is in the top tier in New Hampshire and is rising in Iowa.

"So if what I'm saying is not true, then I should be getting out of the race, which I am not because I think we're making really good progress and connecting," he said.

He said Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker, who exited the race on Monday will be back in politics.

"He may be president some day. He just kinda got over their skis. He spent a lot of money, and they ran out of their money," he said.

Kasich said he was saddened to see House Speaker John Boehner announce his retirement on Friday. He worked with Boehner in the 1990s in Congress to bring military and other reforms, he said

"We need to reflect on his accomplishments then and on his accomplishments in rising and becoming speaker," he said.

Kasich was critical of fellow Republicans who essentially forced Boehner out.

"It's about inexperience. The people who keep saying that they want things to happen, what have they accomplished? What have they gotten done?" he asked. "Are they just speechmakers? Are they just people out there yelling and screaming?"
