The Obama administration spent lavishly on private flights for top government officials, the Daily Caller reported Monday, as the media continues to criticize Trump Cabinet members for flying on corporate planes.
Two former secretaries of the Interior Department spent nearly $1 million on chartered flights from 2010 through 2016, according to government documents obtained by the Daily Caller News Foundation.
Ken Salazar, President Barack Obama's first Interior secretary, spent $586,196 on private flights from 2010 to 2013, when he was replaced by Sally Jewell, who spent $385,438 on chartered planes from 2013 to 2016.
President Donald Trump is facing criticism for private travel by several of his Cabinet members, including Tom Price, who resigned as secretary of Health and Human Services Sept. 29 after Politico reported he spent more than $1 million on private flights.
Trump Interior Secretary Ryan Zinke, Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin and Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Scott Pruitt also have been attacked for flying on private aircraft.
The Daily Caller's report is based on documents sent to the House Natural Resources Committee.
