An Israeli spy's life is at risk because President Donald Trump allegedly divulged highly classified information to the Russian Foreign Minister and ambassador last week, U.S. officials told ABC News on Tuesday.
The spy had infiltrated ISIS and recently provided intel to the U.S. about a plot to bomb a plane flying to the U.S. – information that was shared with the agreement the source remain confidential.
The information was reliable enough for the U.S. to consider a ban on laptop use during flights as the spy said ISIS would hide the bomb in a laptop U.S. officials believe can get through airport screening machines without being detected.
"The real risk is not just this source," said Matt Olsen, the former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, "but future sources of information about plots against us."
"Russia is not part of the ISIS coalition," Olsen added. "They are not our partner."
Trump on Tuesday said he had the "absolute right" to share "facts" with the Russians.
Dan Shapiro, the former U.S. ambassador to Israel, called Trump careless and told ABC the stated disclosures demonstrate a "poor understanding of how to guard sensitive information."
