Some are likening Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump to Ronald Reagan for his ability to draw the support of voters who don't usually pull the GOP lever, but former Texas Gov. Rick Perry says not so fast.
"I don't think I'd go quite as far as to liken him to Ronald Reagan," Perry, one of Trump's former rivals for the nomination, said Thursday on
Fox News Channel's "Your World with Neil Cavuto."
"Because in 1988 Ronald Reagan signed a piece of legislation paying reparations for the Japanese that we put into internment camps in what was a shameful period of American history."
Trump himself has defended his recent call for a moratorium on Muslim immigration by comparing it to President Franklin D. Roosevelt's internment of Japanese Americans during World War II.
"If you look at what he was doing, it was far worse,"
Trump told MSNBC.
