A former CIA official said in a new interview there is "grave concern" regarding North Korea's potential to use nuclear weapons.

During an appearance on "Full Measure" that will air Sunday, Bruce Klingner — a former CIA deputy bureau chief in South Korea — told investigative reporter Scott Thuman the U.S. government needs to keep a close eye on the reclusive nation.

"There's grave concern about North Korea's growing nuclear missile capabilities," Klingner said. "Many experts think they already have a nuclear warhead for the medium range missile, which can reach South Korea and Japan, putting those two countries, our two allies, under a nuclear threat today.

"I think North Korea already has, or we have to assume they have for claiming purposes, the ability to hit the United States today with a nuclear weapon."

Klingner added it is time for America to put North Korea back on the list of state sponsors of terror.

"There's been shipments of conventional arms to terrorist groups, Hezbollah and Hamas," he said. "There have been attempted assassinations, or successful assassinations of North Korean defectors in South Korea and Russia and China and now Malaysia, so a number of these actions were intended to influence the government or the population."

Klingner noted North Korea was rumored to be behind the Sony Studio hack of 2014.

"Full Measure" airs Sunday on Sinclair stations nationwide, and is streamed live Sundays at 9:30 a.m. ET at Fullmeasure.news.
