Joe Biden: Hillary, Dems Didn't Reach Out to Middle Class in Election

Former vice president Joe Biden said Thursday that neither Democrats nor Hillary Clinton did enough to reach the middle class during last year's presidential election.

"This is the first campaign that I can recall where my party did not talk about what it always stood for, and that is how to maintain a burgeoning middle class," Biden said at the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, Mediaite reports.

Biden's comments on the election begin at the 40-minute mark in the above video.

"The truth of the matter is you didn’t hear a single solitary sentence in the last campaign about that guy working on the assembly line making 60,000 bucks a year and a wife making $32,000 as a hostess in a restaurant — and they’re making 90 grand and they’ve got two kids and they can’t make it and they're scared."

Biden, 74, is heading up the university's new Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement. It is scheduled to open later this year.

The former Delaware senator also said that the "angry white men" who voted for Republican Donald Trump were not "racist" because many of them "voted for a black man twice in a row."

They turned to Trump because their concerns were not being heard, Biden said.
