Washington Post reporter Jason Rezaian on Monday rebuked President Donald Trump for his tweet suggesting that he should have left three UCLA players in a China jail.
Rezaian was living and working in Tehran when he was secretly convicted of espionage in 2015 and held captive for more than one-and-a-half years.
He was one of four hostages released by Iran when President Barack Obama agreed to send $400 million to the terrorist state in what many said was a ransom payment.
Trump was displeased with the remarks of the father of one of the UCLA players, LaVar Ball, who downplayed the president's role in securing the release of his son, LiAngelo, and two other freshmen basketball players.
