President Donald Trump still believes the story surrounding Rex Tillerson is "fake news," but just in case it is true that the secretary of state called his boss a moron, the president has a response.
"I think it's fake news, but if he did that, I guess we'll have to compare IQ tests. And I can tell you who is going to win," Trump told Forbes in an extensive interview.
The story that the secretary of state nearly resigned over the summer and whipped out the "moron" comment has been a burr in the president's saddle since last week and been the focus of more than a few tweets.
That has been one of a few sources of tension between the president and Tillerson. The Iran nuclear agreement and approaches to North Korea have been two others, with Trump recently saying Tillerson was "wasting his time" in attempting more dialogue with North Korea.
"He was wasting his time," Trump told Forbes. "I'm not undermining. "I think I'm actually strengthening authority."
But the two seemed to have struck détente, with Trump saying over the weekend that he and Tillerson have a good relationship.
