Senator-elect Cory Gardner of Colorado says he and fellow Republicans must govern with "maturity" over the next two years now that they control both houses of Congress or face an unhappy electorate.
Gardner, appearing on
"Fox News Sunday," said he sees Tuesday's wave election of Republicans not as a rejection of Democrats, but as "a rejection of the failed ways of Washington." Democrats just happened to be in charge of the Senate and the presidency, he said.
If Republicans are unable to get things done over the next two years, they might just see a wave in the opposite direction, Gardner said.
"Let's show that we can do it with Republicans and Democrats, and prove to the American people that Washington learned its lesson," he said. "
