GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump is his own best campaign contributor,
USA Today reports.
In an analysis of Federal Election Commission data, the media outlet reports the real estate billionaire has lent his campaign a total of $24.38 million so far — of which $6.85 million was contributed last month.
The increase in Trump's war chest comes ahead of March primary battles, and to build a 100-person campaign staff that now outnumbers the 88 people employed by Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, according to USA Today.
Non-Trump contributors gave the candidate more than $2 million last month, with more than three-quarters of that money coming in amounts of $200 or less, filings show; the Cruz campaign raised nearly $12 million in the same period.
On the spending side, Trump's total February receipts — a combination of the loans, donations from other people and the roughly $32,000 Trump gave directly to his campaign for services such as staff and rent — came to a little more than $9.2 million, $3.5 million of which was spent on advertising, the filings show.
Cruz spent nearly $9 million on media last month, USA Today reports.
