Air Canada flight attendants will begin wearing disposable gloves to protect themselves against contracting the Ebola virus on airplanes.
CBC reports that the airline received a request from the union representing flight attendants in Canada regarding the use of gloves during flights. The request was granted, allowing the flight workers to wear gloves when handling passenger waste.
There have not been any reported cases of Ebola in Canada. Canadians were
warned last week to leave West African countries currently being affected by the Ebola outbreak.
"We are asking Canadians living in Sierra Leone, Guinea, and Liberia to consider leaving by commercial means while they are still available," Canada's Health Minister Rona Ambrose said.
"The risk to Canadians here at home is very low," Ambrose said, adding that travelers who might have been exposed to the virus will be checked out.
The results of a
poll released Thursday showed that almost half of Americans are avoiding international air travel because of the outbreak.
