Former President Barack Obama and others across the political spectrum expressed their condolences Thursday for the terrorist attack in Barcelona that killed 13 people and injured as many as 50 others.

In a statement reported by CNN, the Vatican said that "the Holy Father is following with great concern what is happening in Barcelona.
"The Pope is praying for the victims of this attack and wants to express all his closeness to the Spanish people, in particular to the injured and the families of the victims," the statement said.
