Conservative commentator and author Ann Coulter says she feels the "hot, hot hate of a thousand suns" for GOP candidate Carly Fiorina because of her critique of Donald
Trump's plan to deny citizenship to babies born in the United States to illegal immigrants.
Appearing Tuesday on
"The Mike Gallagher Show," Coulter conceded she only "turned against" the former Hewlett-Packard CEO "as of yesterday."
Mediate posted an audio clip of the interview.
"At first, I admit I was suspicious because I hate this, ‘Oh, a woman can talk, oh, that’s great!' … It's not breaking news," she explained. "… I just hate this affirmative action among Republicans.”
What turned her totally against Fiorina were "the attacks I heard on Donald Trump" and his immigration proposal that citizenship be denied to so-called anchor babies, Coulter said, dismissing Fiorina's contention that a constitutional amendment would be needed.
The Civil War "wasn't about" granting citizenship to babies born to illegal immigrants, Coulter argued. "Do you think the framers of the 14th amendment, that's what they were hoping to do?" she asked.
Rather, she noted, the 14th Amendment was aimed at conferring citizenship on slaves.
"It is not in the Constitution…. and any candidate who would say that and have no idea what the Civil War was about, no, no, no," Coulter added.
Agreeing with a call-in listener who asked "Why can't we get on base with the rest of the world" about non-citizens giving birth in the United States, Coulter said, "You're absolutely right, and that's why I say I hate Carly Fiorina with the hot, hot hate of a thousand suns."
