A new poll shows Hillary Clinton's lead in some battleground states and even states that typically lean right are giving her an advantage in the presidential campaign that could prove decisive.

The Washington Post/Survey Monkey survey polled more than 74,000 registered voters and proves that Clinton has the northeast, the west coast, and key states in between. Republican Donald Trump could end up taking the majority of the midwestern states but Clinton's lead overall stands at an estimated 244 electoral votes to 126, with an additional 168 electoral votes flagged as "tossups."

Trump's numbers in this poll are struggling in Arizona, Georgia, and Texas, although the trio of states are leaning Republican. Arizona has voted for the Republican presidential candidate in every election since 1952 except in 1996; Texas has been red since 1980; and Georgia has stayed red in every election since 1984 except in 1992.

Key battleground states in which Clinton is leading include Virginia, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.

The aforementioned numbers reflect a two-way race between Clinton and Trump. When Libertarian Gary Johnson and Green Party candidate Jill Stein were added to the mix, Clinton has a smaller lead but is still in control of the race.

Johnson, who needs 15 percent support nationally to participate in the presidential debates, is at that figure or higher in 15 states.

Other key findings from the poll:

  • Trump has 31 percent more support among white voters than nonwhites, the exact opposite of Clinton's numbers in those demographics
  • Clinton has 14 percent more support among women than men
  • Trump has 16 percent more support among men than women
  • Trump leads in 43 states among voters without college degrees

A new CNN/ORC poll, meanwhile, gave Trump the nod in terms of the popular vote. He holds a 45 percent to 43 percent lead over Clinton, while Johnson (7 percent) and Stein (2 percent) are far behind.
