Storm Destroys Oak Tree from 'Shawshank Redemption'

Tuesday, 02 August 2011 02:41 PM EDT

A storm has destroyed half of an oak tree featured in the iconic film “The Shawshank Redemption,” reports the Telegraph

The tree, located in Mansfield, Ohio, is the place where Morgan Freeman’s character finds money and a note left by Tim Robbins’s character.

The tree is now located on private farmland adjacent to Malabar Farm State Park. Park manager Louis Andres told Mansfield’s News Journal that the old oak was split down the middle on Friday by heavy storm winds.

Lee Tasseff, the president of the local convention and visitors’ bureau, calls the damage “tragic” and says that the oak was a frequent stopping point for “Shawshank” fans.
