School Prayer: What is 'See You at the Pole'?

By    |   Wednesday, 27 May 2015 10:59 AM

“See You at the Pole” (SYATP) is a student-led grassroots campaign that encourages prayer among youth by meeting to pray at the flagpole before the start of the school day. The organization started in 1990 with a group of only 10 students. Today the organization has inspired millions of students to meet at the flagpole and pray together during the Global Week of Student Prayer, which the group has declared to be September 20-26, 2015.

SAYTP has over 100 supporting ministries, including Alliance Defending Freedom (ADF), a nonprofit legal organization that advocates for people’s rights to practice their faith. ADF issued a statement in September 2014 defending SYATP, saying SYATP’s rights to organize, pray, advertise, and practice their faith on school grounds is protected by the First Amendment as well as by several past statues.

SYATP has successfully utilized social media to reach students throughout the country. The organization has several Facebook pages in addition to the handles #seeyouatthepole and #neverstoppraying.
