By    |   Tuesday, 04 August 2015 06:11 PM EDT

Abortion laws and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie's veto of a proposal to restore public funding for family planning services, including those by Planned Parenthood, are under discussion with Christie's name in the running for the White House.

Here's what other people are saying about abortion in New Jersey.

• “The rhetoric in the chamber was hot and loud as supporters of the allocation and other measures accused pro-family legislators of being driven by pure religious ideology, and the governor of being a ‘bully.’ Mr. Sweeney, Senate President, used the gavel often in an attempt to control the epithets and arguments that were hurled across the room.”
– Greg Quinlan, director of government affairs for New Jersey Family First, quoted by Life News talking in 2011 about an unsuccessful attempt that year by New Jersey legislators to override one of Christie’s Planned Parenthood vetoes.

• “Today, 25 Senators voted to force taxpayers to fund an organization that repeatedly places the lives and health of NJ women and young girls in grave danger and has engaged in improper Medicaid billing practices. Thankfully, their political charade failed.”
– Marie Tasy of New Jersey Right to Life, quoted by Life News after the 2011 hearing Quinlan described

In what has sadly become a predictable routine, once again, the sponsors of this bill and its companion bill seek to circumvent the budget process and pass legislation that would bestow bonuses to certain family planning clinics and establish a costly new Medicaid program within the Department of Human Services. Because of the new financial burden these bills will levy on New Jersey’s taxpayers outside of the budget process, I am returning these bills without my approval.”
– Statement made by Christie as he issued his most recent veto of Planned Parenthood funding in June 2015
