Fur-bearing animals and "varmints" provide year-round opportunities for hunting enthusiasts in North Dakota.
Here are 10 animals that may be harvested at any time during the year, according to the North Dakota Game and Fish Department website:
1. Badgers
Badgers may be hunted with guns or bows. Traps and hunting dogs may also be used, Fish and Game says.

2. Beaver
Beavers may be hunted with guns or bows or cable-snare devices may be used, according to the state Fish and Game Department. State law restricts the type and caliber of weapons that can be used.
3. Coyote
Coyotes may be hunted with guns or bows. Fish and Game says pursuit with dogs is also allowed. There are also programs, such as the Coyote Catalog, that connect hunters with landowners who want their property to be rid of coyotes.
According to NorthernAg.NET, there were 74 landowners who signed up in 2014, which was up more than 50 percent compared to 2013, which equaled about 900 hunters.
The state agriculture department said livestock owners in North Dakota lost about $1 million to coyotes. The state Fish and Game Department has a link to sign up for the Coyote Catalog, which is active through mid-March.

4. Foxes
Both red foxes and gray foxes may be hunted with guns or bows, trapped, or pursued by hunting dogs, according to North Dakota Game and Fish Department.

6. Others Animals
Nuisance animals and pests, such as ground squirrels, rabbits, skunks, prairie dogs, and porcupines, may be hunted year-round with no bag limit, according to North Dakota Game and Fish Department.
Residents need no permits or licenses, but nonresidents do. Check the department's web site for out-of-state permit requirements.
