Herpes: Role of Diet

Tuesday, 22 February 2011 04:32 PM EST

Every disease needs a special diet for treatment, and the treatment of herpes and diet go hand in hand. Many methods are being tried to prevent recurrence of Herpes, but diet plays a key role. The amino acid Arginine causes Herpes outbreaks and a diet with nuts, chocolate, and caffeine is the common source of this amino acid.

A diet for herpes should be free from foods high in Arginine. The amino acid Lysine suppresses the reproduction of the herpes virus, and it should be included in a Herpes diet. As a rule, a diet for herpes should contain foods with high lysine/arginine ratio. Lysine rich foods like vegetables, soybeans, and beef should be added to the diet. Immunity is low in patients with herpes and diet should be free from alcohol, cigarettes, and tobacco.

Fatty, fast, and fried foods must be curtailed from the diet.
