Billionaire financier George Soros is a strong advocate of many progressive groups and causes. He is also a steadfast supporter of the Democratic Party with contributions to candidates, political action committees and President Obama.
Soros has supported Obama's agenda since Obama's early political career. Here are three concerns the financier shares with the president and one they don't:
1. Both Obama and Soros support cap-and-trade, a policy that encourages the reduction of fossil fuel use, including oil, natural gas and coal. This promotes the use of alternate energy sources through tax incentives and penalties.

During the 2008 campaign, candidate Obama said that under his cap-and-trade plan, "electricity rates would necessarily skyrocket. Even regardless of what I say about whether coal is good or bad. Because I'm capping greenhouse gases, coal power plants, you know, natural gas, you name it, whatever the plants were, whatever the industry was, they would have to retrofit their operations,"
reports Discover the Networks.
2. The Open Society Institute, founded by Soros, contributed to a Yale Law School conference called "The Constitution in 2020." The conference goal was to present "a progressive vision of what the Constitution ought to be."
Obama has clearly declared his intention to "fundamentally transform" the U.S. In his 2006 book, "The Audacity of Hope," Obama said the Constitution "is not a static but rather a living document and must be read in the context of an ever-changing world."
3. Both men share a commitment to the idea that the U.S. is a role model to the world, and Soros has said the U.S. has a special responsibility to protect human rights.
In a 2014 interview with The Telegraph, Obama said, "This is American leadership at its best: we stand with people who fight for their own freedom; and we rally other nations on behalf of our common security and common humanity."
4. The 2013 book "Double Down: Game Change 2012" by John Heilemann and Mark Halperin relates a different side of Obama during a campaign meeting.
"Soros talked Obama's ear off for 45 minutes, giving the president unsolicited economic messaging advice,"
according to a source, as reported by FrontPage Magazine, Obama was "annoyed and bored," Heilemann and Halperin reported.
"If we don't get anything out of him," Obama complained to aides afterward, "I'm never [expletive] sitting with that guy again."
