NMX: Lt. Gov. Carroll: Ann Romney's Speech Humanized Mitt

By    |   Thursday, 30 August 2012 05:49 PM EDT

Ann Romney’s speech at the Republican National Convention humanized her husband and told a compelling story about the GOP nominee for president, Florida’s Lieutenant Governor Jennifer Carroll told Newsmax.TV in an exclusive interview.

“Ann Romney brought it home on a personal level,” she said in an interview in Tampa. “Who knows their husband better than a wife? And she was able to break it down and let us see from a human point of view and wife, mother, someone who has been with him from day one through many, many, years of marriage . . . All people want to paint them as being this rich couple who started out this way.

“They had to work for it! She really humanized, I believe, Governor Romney in the eyes of many who may not have thought that he was so compassionate. Her compelling story, in regards to who the real Mitt Romney is, is from her point of view, so I thought that was very important for individuals to see. She succinctly stated that in a very calm but sincere manner.”

When his turn comes at the podium, Mitt Romney must sell himself to the American public.

“We know the kind of man, and we know his successes,” she said. “What he really needs to tell the American public is why he is the one that everyone should get behind and support. With his background, knowledge, experience, with what we are facing right now, and his goals and directions to bring this country out of an economic downfall that we are in. Share with the American people why they should trust him to do so. If he delivers that, he also will knock this out of the ball park.”

Carroll said that those that precede Romney, such as former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush and Sen. Marco Rubio, also have a role to play and that is to tell the American public why this “is the ticket to get behind to get our country back on track.”

Concerning the bad weather that threatened to disrupt the convention, Carroll said that Florida’s response to the hurricane has shown the world that the state knows “how to take care of tragic situations as the governor has been involved with responding to the storm and the issues related to the storm.”

She noted that Gov. Rick Scott is “over in Pensacola addressing the some of our flooding issues and we also have flooding issues in the Palm Beach County area so our hearts go out to the families that have been affected by the tropical storm and those that have been affected by the hurricane as well on the Gulf Coast. “
