A former commander of a Navy SEAL team Friday called on U.S. authorities to send the suspected New York City terrorist "straight to hell."
Jocko Willink told Fox New's "Fox and Friends" program that too much time is wasted debating whether Sayfullo Saipov should be tried in the United States or transferred to the U.S. detention facility in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
"When I hear people talk about where we’re going to send him, should we send him to Gitmo, I say we skip Gitmo and send him straight to hell where he belongs," Willink said.
Willink, who commanded SEAL Team 3 and received the Silver Star and Bronze Star for his service in Iraq, noted that authorities will interrogate Sayfullo to determine his ties to terrorist groups.
"Yeah, we can gather as much intelligence possible out of him…but eventually you’re going to hit that brick wall where you can’t get any more information out of him," Willink said. "Let’s get him out of this planet."
Willink added that it "sickens my heart" to hear reports that Sayfullo calls himself a "soldier of the caliphate" and wanted an ISIS flag flown in his hospital room, where he is recovering from a wound inflicted by a police officer who shot him on Halloween.
