Dish Network, Fox News Channel Face Friday Deadline

By    |   Monday, 15 December 2014 07:53 PM EST

Dish Network subscribers could lose their ability to watch Fox News Channel if the two companies cannot come to a contract renewal agreement by Friday.

Ads began running Sunday during NFL football games urging viewers to call or contact Dish on Facebook, Mediabistro's TVNewser reports.

Fox News has set up a website, KeepFoxNews.com, that it says will keep customers up to date on the latest developments in the contract talks.

The TV ad and the website offer the dire warning, "DISH Network is threatening to block FOX News Channel any day now."

"Despite the undeniable demand for FOX News Channel, DISH is putting its interests ahead of you by threatening to block your access to Fair and Balanced news programming you can’t get anywhere else," the website reads.

"We are simply notifying our viewers about the possibility of not being able to access Fox News on their current satellite TV provider," Fox News official Tim Carry told TVNewser.

Almost 20,000 people called the phone number and 75,000 visited the website on Sunday following the blitz of ads, according to TVNewser.

Dish has it's own website, Dish Stands for You, which gives its side of the dispute.

"Fox News Network, LLC (Fox), which owns Fox News and Fox Business has threatened to block DISH customers' access to its channels," the site says. Dish's site asks subscribers not to change providers because it encourages channel owners to raise rate demands.

The Fox dispute is Dish's third in recent weeks. CNN, HLN and some other Turner channels went off the air on Dish beginning in October and didn't return until November 21.

CBS-owned stations were taken off Dish on December 5, but the two sides struck a deal just 12 hours later.
