President Donald Trump Saturday accused late-night TV hosts of "dealing with the Democrats" for their anti-Trump material and wondered in a pair of tweets if he and other Republicans should 'be given equal time."

In his back-to-back tweets, Trump wrote:

Late night talk show host Jimmy Kimmel has been particularly successful in recent weeks with his commentary, first by fighting for the Affordable Care Act after his son Billy was born with a congenital heart disease and then this past week, with his reaction to the Las Vegas shootings.

Conservatives are complaining that late-night talk shows are not where political debate should be held, but Kimmel's comments are striking a chord. According to Vulture.com, Kimmel brought in the highest ratings for adults under 50 the night before healthcare reform legislation was pulled from a Senate vote.

Other late night programs, in particular Saturday Night Live, with its lampooning of Trump, have also seen their ratings climb this year. Alec Baldwin was awarded an Emmy in September for his repeat portrayal of Trump on SNL, as did Melissa McCarthy, for her portrayal of ex-Press Secretary Sean Spicer.

Trump mocked the Emmy Awards themselves, after the show, hosted by another late-night star, Stephen Colbert, was statistically a match with last year's all-time low ratings.

The program was filled with jokes aimed at Trump and his administration, and how Trump himself never won an Emmy for his own top-rated television program, "Celebrity Apprentice."
