Democrats voted Thursday night against passing a budget in the Senate because they remain in "lockstep" against President Donald Trump, Republican National Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel said Friday.
"Claire McCaskill, Joe Manchin, none of these Democrats came over," McDaniel told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" program. "They are in lockstep, in opposition resistance to the president. The American people are looking for help and relief, and Republicans fought for that last night, and we're on the way to tax cuts."
House Speaker Paul Ryan has said he wants to get tax reform done by Thanksgiving, and McDaniel said she thinks that is feasible.
"Initially, he had said we might be here through Christmas," she said. "Republicans recognize we need to bring help to the middle class of this country who has been hurting. The president has fought for this."
McDaniel also commented about news of the continuing rift in the Democratic National Committee, saying that the division started during the 2016 presidential campaign, where the DNC "came in heavy for Hillary Clinton and they pushed out Bernie Sanders' supporters."
Earlier this week, the DNC removed several longtime officials, but McDaniel insisted that the Republican Party under Trump is "united."
