Former PR Gov. on Trump-Cruz Feud: I'm Not Getting Into Politics

The former governor of Puerto Rico has nothing to say about President Donald Trump's ongoing conflict with the mayor of San Juan.

MSNBC host Mika Brzezinski asked former Gov. Luis Fortuño about what he thought of Trump's treatment of Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz shortly after playing a clip of a tense meeting between the two, in which Cruz told Trump that "it's all about saving lives, it's not about politics," in reference to relief efforts after Hurricane Maria. Trump simply shook her hand and walked away.

"I'm very sorry, Mika, but I'm not going to get into local politics," Fortuño said.

He added, "If she's running for governor, there are different parties — I don't care. I care about results."

"Is that what you think it is?" Brzezinski asked. "You think it was politics that had him attacking her?"

"I have no idea," he responded. "All I can tell you is we need results. We have people that desperately need help. As long as we get that help, we should not be talking about politics at this moment."
