President Donald Trump's approval rating is at its lowest point in the wake of the first indictments from a special counsel investigating Russian meddling in the U.S. election, a new CNN poll found.
According to the survey, 36 percent say they approve of the way Trump is handling his job as president; the previous low was 37 percent, CNN reported.
Conversely, disapproval has reached a new high, at 58 percent, with 48 percent saying they strongly disapprove of the way Trump is handling his job.
In other findings, the poll found:
- 44 percent are "very concerned" about reports of contacts between suspected Russian operatives and the Trump campaign, up from 27 percent last July, shortly after news broke about a meeting at Trump Tower between Donald Trump, Jr. Jared Kushner, Paul Manafort and a Russian lawyer.
- 59 percent say they think Trump knew last year that someone associated with his campaign had contact with suspected Russian operatives; 35 percent think he didn’t know about those contacts.
- 39 percent see last week's indictments of Manafort and associate Rick Gates as signs of a widespread effort within the campaign to coordinate with Russia; 44 percent say they represent an effort to coordinate that was limited to just a few people.
- 64 percent say the investigation into Russian efforts to influence the election is a serious matter that should be fully investigated; 32 percent see it as an effort to discredit Trump's presidency.
- 34 percent approve of the way Trump is handling that investigation, 54 percent disapprove.
The poll's margin of error is plus or minus 3.6 percentage points.
