The return of lawmakers to Capitol Hill this week also means the rekindling of three congressional probes investigating Russia's tampering with the 2016 election, Politico reported.
Coming to hearing rooms soon: New allegations, more witnesses, more leaks, and continued disjointed processes between the committees, Politico reported, despite all being chaired by Republicans.
"They're doing their thing and we're doing our thing," an aide told Politico.
The three congressional probes:
- Senate Intelligence Committee, chairman Richard Burr, R-NC.
- House Intelligence Committee, chairman Mike Conaway, R-Texas.
- Senate Judiciary Committee, chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa.
The potential witness list for one or all of the committees includes Donald Trump Jr., Paul Manafort, and Michael Cohen.
Of course all three are seen as redundant and second fiddle to the Russia investigation being run by special counsel Robert Mueller, whose team has been working through the summer while lawmakers were on recess.
