Former President Barack Obama's main donors haven't committed to supporting former Vice President Joe Biden for a potential presidential bid in 2020.
Although the race is years away, this could be a sign that Biden's time has passed in the capital.
"[Biden's] got more than 40 years in Washington," one unnamed Obama donor told The Hill. "He's the opposite of what the party says it wants right now. He's going to have a tough time if he runs."
Although Biden hasn't announced a campaign, he's the subject of much speculation, and has repeatedly said he wouldn't rule it out.
"I have no intention of running for president, but I'm a great respecter of fate," Biden told NPR in June. "I don't have any plans to do it, but I'm not promising I wouldn't do it."
Of the 10 donors the Hill contacted, none would commit to Biden, with many saying they'd rather have a fresh face in 2020 against President Donald Trump.
"[We've] gotta be realistic and strategic, not emotional," said one donor who backed both Obama-Biden campaigns.
"There are some who love Joe and have a lot of respect for him, but want a whole new face for the party and want an aspirational voice," another donor added.
