Chris Christie Seeks Tougher Gun Laws for New Jersey

New Jersey is already considered to be among the states with the toughest gun laws, but Gov. Chris Christie thinks they can be stronger.

Christie proposes adding mental-health records to instant background checks and wants bigger penalties for selling firearms to convicted felons, owning a gun with the intent to unlawfully transfer it and illegally owning ammunition and in trafficking firearms.

Christie noted that New Jersey already has a ban on military-style weapons, a seven-day waiting period, the third-strictest laws on magazine capacity and a one-gun-a-month law.

“Ensuring there are common-sense safety measures when purchasing guns is not enough,” Salon reported Christie as saying. “We must address the many different contributing factors.”
