The $4.4 trillion budget sent to Congress by President Donald Trump is an "outrageous" spending plan that will further plunge the nation into debt, former House Majority Leader Tom DeLay told Newsmax TV on Monday.
"I am so disappointed," DeLay, a Texas Republican, told Miranda Khan on Monday's "America Talks Live."

"This is just outrageous . . . I just love the fact we had leadership on the tax bill — even though it wasn't a conservative tax bill, the tax cuts were greatly important for the economy — but then there's no leadership, particularly from Trump . . . in reducing the size of government, in reducing the spending in America . . .
"He increases the deficit, along with the Republicans and Democrats in the Senate to a trillion dollars a year. That's so . . . that's so, Obama-ian."
Trump's budget, which includes increases in military spending, would push the deficit to more than $7.1 trillion over the next decade, according to The New York Times.
"It's either going to inflame the [Republican] base, and they're going to rise up against the Senate and the president, or they're just going to shake their heads and walk away. And neither of these is a good option."
One solution, DeLay believes lawmakers should "take the lead now" and make a direct pitch to Americans.
"[They should] say look this government is too big, under Obama it has grown out of proportion and out of control, and we're going to bring those controls to the government and we're going to reduce the size of government and people would just rally all over this country," DeLay told Khan.
