Republican Roy Moore has raised $2.5 million for his senate campaign in Alabama, while his Democratic opponent Doug Jones has taken in $1.6 million.

The figures were reported by The Birmingham News and attributed to the Federal Elections Commission.

For Moore, they show the money was raised from April 1 to Sept. 30. About $2 million has been spent in the campaign, which reported it had a balance of $543,000.

Meanwhile, Jones' $1.6 million was reported to have raised between May 8 to Sept. 30. About $610,000 has already been spent by his campaign, which has a balance of about $1 million.

The special election to fill Jeff Sessions' former senate seat will be held Dec. 12.
