Legendary entertainer Wayne Newton says there is a seat waiting in hell for the gunman who killed 58 people in a mass shooting in Las Vegas.
Newton's words came in an interview aired Wednesday on "Fox & Friends."
The gunman has been identified as Stephen Paddock. He was found dead at the scene. Newton believes Paddock killed himself to avoid justice.
"But I know that there's a seat waiting for him in hell, so he'll suffer a long time," he says.
Newton insists he doesn't want the murders to define Las Vegas.
"Having thought it through, I don't believe it will," he says. "I know Las Vegas will recover from it. It's a terrible, terrible thing. And our sympathies go out to all the victims and those who are still fighting for their lives.
"As the investigations go on, we find out more and more. But the one thing that still angers me is that nobody can reason why this fruitcake did that."
The Las Vegas Review-Journal reports that Newton has kicked in $100,000 to a fund for the victims of the shooting.
