Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., on Wednesday redirected President Donald Trump's finger-pointing for the terrorist attack in New York City toward a "real solution" — anti-terrorism funding.
Schumer was responding to a Trump tweet earlier Wednesday that blamed Schumer for immigration policies that led to terrorist suspect Sayfullo Saipov gaining entry to the United States in 2010.
Schumer followed with a short statement:
"I have always believed and continue to believe that immigration is good for America," Schumer said. "President Trump, instead of politicizing and dividing America, which he always seems to do at times of national tragedy, should be focusing on the real solution — anti-terrorism funding — which he proposed cutting in his most recent budget."
"I'm calling on the president to immediately rescind his proposed cuts to this vital anti-terrorism funding," concluded Schumer's statement.
Schumer followed up with a series of tweets aimed at underscoring his point:
Saipov is alleged to have driven a truck onto a bike path in lower Manhattan on Tuesday that killed eight and injured more than a dozen.
