President Donald Trump said Wednesday the deadly flooding ravaging Texas is a scene of "horror and devastation, adding that "my heart goes out" to the Lone Star State.
In a tweet posted shortly after 9 a.m., the commander in chief stated:
On Tuesday, the president and first lady Melania Trump jetted to Texas to see the devastation firsthand.
"This was of epic proportion," the president declared as he pledged to provide model recovery assistance.
"We want to do it better than ever before. We want to be looked at in five years, in 10 years from now as, 'This is the way to do it.'"
The rainfall in Texas reached epic proportions on Tuesday as the downpour in Cedar Bayou, 148 miles southwest of Houston reached 51.88 inches — a record for both the state and the continental U.S.
