NASA's Houston space center is closed Monday due to Hurricane Harvey, but mission control reported that mission-critical staff members are "fully capable" of working with the International Space Station, according to a statement on NASA's website.
"Hurricane Harvey is still causing catastrophic flooding in the Huston area," the statement said. "NASA's Johnson Space Center remains closed, but the Mission Control Center is operational and fully capable of supporting the International Space Station from Houston."
The Lyndon B. Johnson Space Center's main entrance and roads leading to other center entrances were flooded Monday morning, according to the center's emergency management website.
"Unless you are mission essential, please stay off the road and stay safe," the website post read.
"Standing strong and keeping the lights on," flight director Zebulon Scoville tweeted Sunday.
Aboard the space station Saturday, astronaut Jack Fischer tweeted, "Houston, we have a hurricane."
